What is the sole objective you want to achieve through your resume ..?
Sell yourself to get a chance to attend Interview ;right !!
But what if your resume is not selling you properly ,even after adding all relevant details
You are the only one who is not receiving Interview call ,while rest of your colleague / friends are attending Interviews .Frustrating right ?
So what is it you are doing wrong :
Maybe you are adding all those unnecessary details ,which are making your resume look too lengthy and irrelevant for the job .
Remember that your resume should reflect that you are in match with the role,so avoid any information which dilutes this message
Here are few tips on what information you should leave out while preparing resume :
Making it difficult to read
Light fond colour, too small or too large or irregular font size , a mixture of different font styles ,complex formatting makes resume difficult to read ,distracting ,annoying and hard on eyes .
It straightaway tells recruiters that you are not fit for Job because if you can’t even do the formatting correct ,then much can not be expected from you..and believe me 8 out of 10 job seeker does this mistake .
Irrelevant Objective / Goals statement and Key skills :
Refrain yourself from putting any statement in form of objective/goals,which you will not be able to justify at the time of interview..same applies with key skills .
Mentioning good communication as your skill and then failing to show that at the time of interview or mentioning ”Seeking leadership position ” as your objective ,then failing to justify that to the interviewer when he/she asked you any leadership based situational question .
The point here is to refrain from adding any key skills ,objective ,goals ,achievement ,which can cause backfire at the time of interview .
Irrelevant Experiences :
If you have any experience part time /full time which is not relevant to job you are applying for ,so either skip adding it or keep it short ..point here is not to display it prominently .
If you have many years of experience ,then add experiences in reverse chronological order and keep initial experiences as short and concise as possible .
Adding too many hobbies and Interests :
In most cases, they are seen as superfluous and trivial.Seriously nobody want to know what you do in your spare time ,If they want to ,they will ask this question at the time of Interview .So try to skip adding hobbies and Interest ,unless they are relevant to the job or transferable to job-related skills .
Not adding Linkedin account link
Although not adding a LinkedIn account link is not gonna affect your candidature but it is advisable to add this and why so ,because firstly most of the people skip adding their LinkedIn account link so doing so will give you edge over others and secondly when recruiter /HR manager click on the link and view your profile ,you will get notification for the same and you will get to know that HR has checked your CV and also you can connect with that HR /Recruiter over LinkedIn .
Incomplete contact Info
Such an obvious detail but still job seeker miss it .Sometimes full name is missing, sometimes email ID is not there , sometimes they forget to update their new contact details and recruiter keeps calling them or emailing them only to get disappointed.
Sending it as a Word Document
After formatting It is better to save your resume in PDF format ,for it makes resume look neat and clean and also there are chances of your formatting getting disturbed once your word file (.doc file) will be opened by recruiter so to avoid this go for PDF format
Irrelevant details
You can avoid putting these points in your resume :Some details you are required to be shared once your candidature reaches at certain level of discussion so refrain sharing or mentioning them in your resume
1.Such as references details or reference upon request
2.Family Members details
3.CTC /Notice Period details : (Yes people does that)
Unprofessional Email ID :
Are you still using the same email ID ,which you made when you were in college to impress your friends ,It’s time to ditch that Emai ID unless it is professional or decent one
goldy.thesuperstar@gmail.com looks really bad on your resume. Please avoid such kind of IDs
Not adding relevant keywords :
Adding keywords in your resume is important to make it searchable If you do not do it , your CV may not get passed the initial filtering
Secrets of making your CV searchable
So above are all the mistakes ,which you should totally avoid while making resume
If you have any more points to add, then mention them at the comments section.
